Thermal Inspection Applications

Radiometric data paired with GPS location for every anomaly — not just pictures, but actionable reports.

🏢

Commercial Rooftop Moisture Survey

Detect subsurface moisture trapped beneath membrane roofing systems before it spreads — without invasive probing or scaffolding.

  • Flat TPO, EPDM, and modified bitumen roofs
  • Best flown 1–2 hours after sunset for maximum contrast
  • GPS-annotated anomaly map delivered as PDF + GeoTIFF
  • Used by insurance adjusters, property managers, roofers
☀️

Solar Panel Hot-Spot Analysis

Identify underperforming cells, bypass diode failures, and soiling patterns across large solar arrays quickly and safely from the air.

  • Individual cell-level temperature differentials
  • Best flown under peak irradiance (10am–2pm)
  • Numbered anomaly report with exact panel locations
  • Compatible with IEC 62446-3 inspection standards
⚡

Electrical Infrastructure Survey

Locate overloaded breakers, failing connections, and heat-generating faults in switchgear, transformers, and distribution systems.

  • Must be inspected under normal operating load
  • Identifies hot connections before failure or fire risk
  • Report includes severity classification (NETA standards)
  • Suitable for substations, distribution panels, MV equipment
🌡️

HVAC & Building Envelope

Detect air leakage, insulation gaps, and HVAC inefficiency in commercial buildings — reducing energy costs and diagnosing comfort complaints.

  • Interior and exterior thermal scans
  • Identify infiltration points and thermal bridges
  • Support for ASHRAE 211 energy audits
  • Before/after comparison reports available

Thermal Inspection FAQ

What is radiometric thermal imaging?+
Radiometric thermal imaging captures the actual temperature of every pixel in the image, not just a color representation. This allows us to measure precise temperature differentials, identify exact hot-spot temperatures on solar panels, and document temperature ranges of roof moisture anomalies — all with GPS coordinates.
When should a thermal inspection be flown?+
Rooftop moisture surveys are most accurate within 1–2 hours after sunset, when the roof has cooled but wet areas retain heat. Solar panel inspections are best performed under peak solar irradiance (10am–2pm). Electrical and HVAC surveys can be performed any time equipment is under normal operating load.
What deliverables will I receive?+
You receive: full radiometric JPEG images with embedded temperature data, a georeferenced thermal orthomosaic (GeoTIFF), an annotated PDF report identifying all anomalies with GPS coordinates and temperature values, and a CSV temperature export. Delivery via secure cloud link within 24–48 hours of the flight.
Can you inspect a large commercial rooftop?+
Yes. Flat commercial rooftops are an ideal application for drone thermal inspection. We can survey large rooftops quickly and safely, identifying subsurface moisture beneath TPO, EPDM, or modified bitumen membrane roofing that would be completely invisible to visual inspection. Commonly used by insurance adjusters, property managers, and roofing contractors.
Do you need FAA clearance to fly thermal inspections?+
All commercial drone flights are conducted under Curtis's FAA Part 107 Commercial Remote Pilot Certificate. Airspace authorization (LAANC) is obtained automatically for controlled airspace near airports. Most commercial and industrial sites fall within FAA Class G or E airspace and require no additional authorization.
